A Juicing Guide For Newbies

By Joel A. Johnson

Juicing is a very healthy life style. Juicing extracts natural nutrients such as vitamins and minerals in large quantities from fruits and vegetables. This is much easier as you don't have to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables to get these nutrients in such portions.

Shoppers should be aware that natural juices in stores have a lot less nutrients and enzymes, as they go through a heating process when they were being manufactured.

If you decide to go into juicing, as with anything else, start by learning the basics about juicing which will allow you to build a good foundation to launch from.

Start learning about the benefits that are available from different fruits and vegetables. Having this understanding will help you with different health challenges you may be having and set you on the right path.

As you do your research you may learn that if you have a problem with joint inflammation, you can drink juices with cantaloupe, celery, beet and cucumber to aid with joints and bone repairs.

Be aware not to juice cabbage, kale, or collard greens. These vegetables in their raw form are known to suppress thyroid function. These vegetables should not be avoided however, as they have excellent health benefits, they are just better when they go through some form of cooking.

Remove vegetables from the refrigerator a few hours before juicing. When vegetables too cold are used in juicing they tend to negatively effect your gastrointestinal tract which can lead to stomach problems.

Know the better juices. A juice with a lot of green leaf vegetables is better. Ideally, it is recommended that a juice should be 50-70% greens and the rest fruits. Fruits are high in sugar and calories so you don't want to use too much.

Green juices are very healthy and are known to have a cleansing effect on the body, but they taste terrible. This is why you should add other healthy ingredients to enhance their taste and thereby make them more enjoyable. You can add some lime if you prefer a sour taste or sweet fruits like apples if you prefer a sweet taste.

Remember juicing should be pleasant and not something you try to avoid. Juice what you like to eat and your juicing experience will be better.

Your juicer is an investment in your health so take care of it. Wash it as soon as you are finished juicing. Look out for those stains from some fruits and vegetables that tend to make your blades and jugs look messy.

When using a heavy duty juicer, remember to remove seeds and pits your fruits before putting the entire fruit in your machine. A disregard for this practice can result in some repairs to your juicer. Additionally, failure to remove fruit seeds such as apple seeds may expose you to cyanide, a toxic chemical found in these seeds.

There you go, you now have a better understanding on how go about juicing. Now learn about juice extractors and you are there.
