Steps To Make a Paleo Protein Bars

By Amanda Loyola

The paleo way of life is growing in popularity, and so is the demand for paleo-friendly protein bars. The problem is that they can get pricey, and they might not have the flavor options you are looking for.

If you know what I'm talking about, and you enjoy testing out new recipes - why not create your own homemade protein bars? They might take some time to bake, and they do not come in convenient single-serving packages, but with some practice and some closable plastic bags, you can develop your very own nutritious snack bars that you can take along with you in the car, to the gym or while traveling.

If you've ever reviewed the labels for paleo bars, you probably have discovered a couple of similarities. There are typically fewer than 10 ingredients, and many include nuts, coconut, protein powder and in some cases dried fruit.

These are all items that you can purchase at your local grocery store, mix in a blender, spread out in a baking dish and cook for around 10-20 minutes. When finished, you simply take the baking pan out to cool, cut your bars into squares and place in air-tight containers that are ready to enjoy when you are.

The first few recipes that you make might be trial and error as far as discovering the taste and consistency you prefer. There are several free recipes online that you can browse by doing a quick search in a search engine.

Once you discover a dish that you like, you can get nuts, seeds and protein powder in bulk and cut your costs. Not only will you be eating healthy - you will be spending less cash as well!

Nuts, of course, have protein, however, some people add egg or protein powder to increase the amount.

Nuts, shredded coconut and dried blueberries will not stick together on their own. You want to add things like nut butter, coconut oil with flax seed meal or honey to hold everything together.

Flavorings such as vanilla or cinnamon can spice up your treats, together with a touch of salt. Get innovative with the paleo products you include in your own recipes, as this can improve the flavor, increase the variety and make it easier to enjoy the paleolithic way of life.
