Fun Pool Party Games For Kids

By Michelle Howe

Planning some pool party games for kids is an inexpensive way to keep active minds and bodies entertained. When it's hot outside, fun in the water is one of the best ways to avoid overheating. Most games can be planned at very little cost. Just about any game can be adapted for a small or large crowd.

Take for example, the classic party activity of having a pinata. As a new alternative, this simple item can be turned into a water based game. You won't have to mess with using a blindfold at all. Instead, have the children swing a bat or stick at the pinata as they run and cannonball into the water. Hidden inside can be all kinds of toys. The toys will should be able to float so that nothing gets destroyed or sinks to the bottom.

Squirt guns, swim goggles and water toys are all good ideas. A mixture of fun and useful items is the best choice. Candy could also be added as long as it is put in some type of water proof case first. Stores where all of their inventory is only $1 are a great place to stock up on all kinds of cheap items for this game.

The children themselves are a great place to get some ideas. Their creative minds tend to think of cheap trinkets that an adult wouldn't consider. It might be a surprise to find that they are so excited about the same itself that they are fine with he pinata being empty. While the prizes are great, the real fun is in breaking the pinata and splashing into the water.

Another fun game would be to toss a variety of prizes out into the middle of the pool. Make all of the kids wait around the edges until everything has been tossed in, then turn them loose. Just watching all of the chaos as they try to grab arm loads of prizes and swim at the same time can be quiet entertaining for the adults.

Relay style games are another good option for pool side games. Start by tying to ropes to one side and stretching them across to the other side to be tied. The kids can be placed in different teams at this point. Each team must have one person at a time cross the pool on something that floats, as they pull themselves along with the rope. The goal is to get each team member across and back first.

Life jackets could be used for the flotation devices in this game. They work well to keep everyone above the water and keep everyone safe at the same time. Children that don't know how to swim could also participate with this method. Regardless of how it's played, an adult should stay close to monitor the activity.

Pool party games for kids are a lot of fun, but safety should always come first. Every game should be suitable for the age of the kids that will be playing it. Everyone needs to have proper safety gear to use as well. As with any water based activity, a responsible adult should remain nearby to help keep everyone safe.
